Sponsor Luncheon – Friday, September 24th Location: River Bend Foodbank 11:45 am - 1:00 pm The Sponsor Luncheon is an informational event for our sponsors, high school advisors, students, principals, superintendents, mayors, and the media.
Kick-Off Party – Monday, September 27th
Location: River Bend Foodbank 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. This energizing event is the official kick-off for the 2010 Student Hunger Drive. Our sponsors serve pizza and pop to 500+ high school students who are there to perform a Student Hunger Drive themed cheer, rap, skit or other entertainment piece. All schools participate in this great event and the winner, as determined by a panel of sponsor judges, is awarded the coveted Hy-Vee Haul (2,000 lbs of food). The winner is also featured on a commercial promoting the Student Hunger Drive that is aired throughout the six weeks of the Drive.
Hy-Vee Poverty Diet Challenge – Wednesday and Thursday, October 6th - 7th.The Hy-Vee Poverty Diet Challenge is a Student Hunger Drive initiative designed to expose individuals to the realities of living on food stamps. Participants are asked to spend no more than $3.43 per day on food and drink for two days. The Hy-Vee Poverty Diet Challenge will take place on October 7th & 8th.
Bag Hunger – Wednesday, October 13th. The Student Hunger Drive’s Bag Hunger project is another way to help the community get involved in the fight against hunger. Paper bags will be inserted into local newspapers on this day. People can fill these bags with non-perishable food items and take them to an area high school or designated sponsor to help the students reach their goal.
Loading Days – Wednesday and Thursday, November 3rd – 4th. Location: River Bend Foodbank. Students drop off truck loads of food at scheduled times throughout the day. Students from each school can watch the Foodbank fill up and learn exactly how many pounds of food they collected during the Drive.
Finale Rally – Thursday, November 5th
Location: River Bend Foodbank All students, advisors, principals, superintendents, sponsors, media, and friends of the Drive are invited back to the River Bend Foodbank for an awards party to announce the results of the Student Hunger Drive. Students experience first hand what can be accomplished by volunteering their time and working together to help those in need in our community.
